Memories From El Salvador
1. "My parents and I are from the U.S., but we were living in El Salvador due to my father's job. I was 13 years old, eating breakfast in front of the TV before school. Due to the time difference the first plane had hit the WTC by the time I was awake. As I watched, the second plane hit. I called my mom over and then ran to the bathroom door yelling to get my dad to come out of the shower. I told him what was going on and to come watch but he thought we were pranking him.
No one really bothered teaching at school that day, everyone was either crowded around the teacher's computer or sneaking off to the library where the only TV's were. Rumors were flying everywhere, like Camp David being hit or more planes in the air. The principal made an PA announcement later in the day and we had a moment of silence.
When I got home, my parents almost looked shell-shocked. I found out later my dad came home early from work and they had sat and watched the towers collapse as it happened. My mom is from a Muslim country and was hoping so hard it wasn't Islamic terrorism, unfortunately that was the case."
