Memories from Greece
1. "It’s definitely one memory that will stick with me forever. I was 10 years old and my dad was in NYC at the time while the rest of my family hadn’t immigrated yet. I remember that it was afternoon and we were at a dentist appointment for me and my brother. All of a sudden, the adults got quiet and were looking on the TV. I didn’t know what was going on but my mom got all nervous and was ready to cry. The dentist told us we had to all go home and she would reschedule. My mom on the way back was hitting every pay phone trying to contact my dad my aunt anyone she could think off. Of course the lines were down at the time so no one to talk to. Finally she managed to get ahold of him the next day and got reassured.
Crazy part is, years later I spoke to my dad about it and he told me that the construction crew he worked for would pass WTT literally a block away and would always stop to get coffee around there. For some reason that day they didn’t stop and continued on to their job site which was West Point... imagine that being at West Point on the day that happened!
When the first tower got hit my dad says they didn’t know what was going on just that everyone was really agitated and running around. Then they were told to stop and stay in one area and don’t move. Finally at around 11-12 they were told to go home. Took them like 4-5 hour to get home.
