Memories from the Netherlands
1. "I was on a Dutch airport/military base in Soesterberg, working on the fire and smoke detectors when suddenly four armed guys who look very nervous demanded I pack my stuff and leave pronto. This was awkward since I was basically in the middle of my testing, and dislike having to do work with multiple weapons aimed in my general direction. They told me to be quiet and offered no explanation.
I was escorted back to the front desk in quickstep and tried to ask the guard there what was going on, but he didn't explain either. There was a small TV in the corner where I saw an airplane smash into a building. I pointed to it, and asked,
'Hey, what movie is that?'
'That's live, not a movie.'
I learned what happened by listening to the radio."

The Bold and the Beautiful opening (2001)
|
2. "I was 6 years-old, watching The Bold and the Beautiful with my mom. It was her favorite show back in the day. When my mom walked to the kitchen to get a drink, the breaking news story came. She replied,
'Did you put on this stupid movie?' She then changed the channel a couple of times... and started crying. To me the significance of what was happening only occurred once she started crying so naturally, I started crying as well. My dad was just discharged from the military after doing having been to a war-zone, late 2000-early 2001. Man I was so scared that my dad had to go back and fight a war once again. - Reddit user /u/Mitchubissshi |
